Patrol K-9 Handler Course

(4 Weeks Patrol, 6 Weeks Dual Purpose)

K-9STAC has created a current, unique, and bold Patrol Handler Course based on real world experience.  This course is designed to provide the new Handler and Patrol Dog with the necessary fundamentals and practical skills and knowledge to work as a professional, effective, efficient and safe K-9 Team.  This course is approved and meets all the important standards and certifications set by California POST and the K-9 Industry.  Each K-9 Team will learn proper handling skills ensuring that they are prepared to deploy as a K-9 Team in the State of California.  During this course, the Handler will be provided with a real life training approach, guiding the Handler to a clear understanding of a working dogs psychological behaviors and mannerisms when dealing with police work.  The Handler will be trained from real world experienced Instructors, and exposed to numerous disciplines and exercises that will build and strengthen them as K-9 Handlers.  Our Instructors will work side by side with them on the fundamental, stressing the importance of correct handling, deployment and tactics. The K-9 Team will be provided with the following necessary skills:  ability to control their K-9 Partner, ability to locate, alert, and when necessary apprehend a suspect, ability to demonstrate proper search and deployment tactics, and the ability to overcome real world changing obstacles.  This course is necessary to become an active and certified K-9 Team. At the conclusion of this course, each team will be evaluated and certified by an independent California POST K-9 Evaluator.

Decoy Development Course

(5 Day Decoy Development, 3 Day Advanced)

K-9STAC has created a current, unique, and bold Decoy Course based on real world experience, that will expose you to a new look at decoying. Remember don’t sacrifice quality of training with the McDonaldization of other training facilities, Handlers and Departments know how important a decoy is to the dogs growth and development. So, at  K-9STAC we offer this must have training based on the needs of the department. Whether, the current experienced decoy, or an active handler or previous handler, or a new officer or a person who is looking to begin their career on becoming a handler and trainer, this course is for you. Our Decoy Courses are from 5 days to 3 weeks. This course offers benefits to all.

During this course, you will be provided with a real life training approach, guiding you to a clear understanding of a working dogs psychological behaviors and mannerisms when dealing with police work.  You will be trained from real world experienced Instructors, and exposed to numerous disciplines and exercises that will build and strengthen you as a decoy.  Our Instructors will work side by side with you on the fundamental, stressing the importance of correct positioning, delivery, and the k-9 psychological effects that occur when decoying for the canines. Additionally, this course provides a great platform for working current issues or problem solving between you and your current K-9 partner.

This course is extremely physical and demanding, yet fun and exciting.  Being physically fit and mentally prepared, to avoid injuries, is highly recommended.  We strongly recommend that ALL departmental K-9 Staff and their Trainers attend this course, despite any misconceptions you have regarding decoying, it is one of the most important positions in the program.

Note: A skilled decoy can make a bad dog look good, but a poorly trained or unskilled decoy can hurt your k-9 partner, your officer handler and his or herself, causing you thousands of dollars, liability, and human resource problems for your department. At K-9STAC, we prefer to make your agencies decoy better!

Attendees are allowed to attend this course with their K-9 Partners (no additional fees), for the K-9 Bite Building & Problem Solving portion of this course. During this portion of the course, we will address and resolve all growth & developmental issues or problems you may be dealing with.
